Tanya Modini is an award-winning writer/director/producer based on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, Australia.


In 2021, Tanya’s screenplay, The Moths Will Eat Them Up, was selected by Screen Queensland for the RIDE Shorts Program and had its world premiere at Brisbane International Film Festival 2021. Tanya co-directed the film alongside Luisa Martiri, and it was selected for the Sydney Film Festival 2022 where it won the Dendy Award for Best Live Action Short, and the Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Director. The Moths Will Eat Them Up was also an official selection at St Kilda Film Festival 2022 where it was nominated for Best Actor, Best Achievement in Sound Post-Production, and Best Original Score.

 

Tanya's script for The Moths Will Eat Them Up won the 2022 AWGIE in the short film category. The film was also nominated for a 2022 AACTA Award.

 

Tanya’s short film script, And The Ocean Agreed, was longlisted for the Monte Miller Awards 2022 and was produced in 2023. And The Ocean Agreed is currently on the film festival circuit after having its World Premiere at Dances With Films Los Angeles in June 2024. The short film is a proof of concept for a feature film.

The pilot for Tanya's series, Love Lies, was long listed in the Australian Writer's Guild Emerging Writers Awards 2024.

 

Tanya’s work is informed by her previous roles as a police officer, trauma counsellor, and in the prevention of violence against women. Tanya will always push boundaries to champion diversity and promote LGBTIQ+ and women's issues wherever she can. Tanya was selected for AFTRS Talent Camp Queensland in 2019 and was a finalist in the Screen Queensland Greg Coote Scholarship 2020 with the pilot of her series Boys in Town.
